“An area of unsurpassed beauty” … David Livingstone. More than 100 years later, that description of Lake Tanganyika still holds true. Africa’s most magnificent stretch of water, crystal clear, calm, warm, mysterious and very, very deep. The lake is the world’s longest freshwater lake at 675km in length, and the deepest lake in Africa. It is host to over 300 species of fish of which two thirds are unique and found nowhere else.

The shoreline of Nsumbu National Park offers a haven to wildlife, while the crystal clear blue waters teem with an unparalleled diversity of life.

World class angling, adventure safaris, kayaks, walks, village and cultural visits, and Zambia’s only SCUBA diving and snorkelling destination, this is a wonderfully unique playground in the middle of Africa.

Kasanka is Zambia’s first national park under private management and is entirely reliant on tourism revenue and charitable funding. It is a valuable conservation area with diverse flora and fauna including many endangered species and exceptional birdlife. See the world’s largest mammal migration of bats . During November and December each year five million straw-coloured fruit bats take up residence in one hectare of Kasanka National Park’s mushitu swamp forest.  Enticed by the abundance of such delicacies as musuku, mufinsa and the other wild fruits in the area, colonies of bats start arriving in late October.

2 nights: Includes- accommodation, meals, local drinks, activities, local transfers, laundry and Park fees.

Early morning and late afternoon game drives to see the bats fly in to roost and an afternoon game drive hopefully you will see the shy sitatunga antelope.

Each year  Mfuwe Lodge have some very special guests that come to visit – “Wonky Tusks”  family have been regular guests at the lodge for a number of years, visiting every October and November to feast on the fallen fruits from the large “Wild Mango” (Cordyla africana) tree in the lodge grounds. The fact that a large safari lodge is built around this delicious food store is of no concern …after all, why walk the extra few metres to go around, when there are some nice steps and a tiled reception lobby to saunter through each day? In October 2009 a new arrival to the herd – Lord Wellington – was born on the Lodge grounds and at 2 days old was introduced to the reception and the steps – now he is an expert at clambering up and through reception area.
